Representatives of the NGOs from Macedonia and the whole world, lobbyists and protectors of the idea for freedom of informing at the meeting held on September 28, 2002 in Sofia, Bulgaria, formed a network of defenders of freedom of informing. They agreed on cooperation in the promotion of the right to free access to public information and the plan for transparent working of the organs and the institutions that poses public information,
Main aims of this network are promotion and adoption of the laws for free access to public information in the countries that lack this kind of legislature, as well as support in the implementation of the laws in the countries that already have this kind of laws.
It was suggested at this meeting that 28th September becomes the international “I HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW” day, a day which would symbolize the global movement for promotion of the right to free access to information.
